Psychodynamic psychotherapist, registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council.
October 2020: I am not taking on any new referrals at present.
I am an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, having worked closely with people for over 10 years.
Perhaps you have found your way here because you are feeling troubled but you are unable to think or work things through on your own. I understand that it is never easy to ask for help of this kind but you do not have to be alone in all this. I can provide a professional and safe environment in which you can speak openly and confidentially about whatever is on your mind.
I am trained to listen to you in a way that can help you recognise the source of your present difficulties which may be rooted in the past.
My theoretical framework is psychodynamic; this allows me to draw upon psychoanalytic principles and ideas to inform my clinical practice. My training and experience allows me to work competently in open-ended psychodynamic psychotherapy.
I undertake regular supervision in order to continue to develop and monitor my work.
How does it work?
Once you have made contact, we would make a time to meet and our first session would last for an hour. This will give you the opportunity to tell me about yourself and what has brought you to seek help, to get a sense of how we might work together and for us to think about if what I am offering is right for you. This is also a time for you to ask any questions you might have.
Once we have agreed a regular time to meet this will be the day and time for your session each week. Each session will last 50 minutes.
I work at the Psychotherapy Practice on Tuesdays.
Initial consultation (lasting an hour): £60.00.
Ongoing sessions (lasting 50 minutes): £55.00.
I have undertaken rigorous training courses over many years:
Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF) Advanced Diploma in Once Weekly Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (accredited by the British Psychoanalytic Council);
Infant Observation Course (Compass Counselling) with Tavistock-trained Child Psychotherapist;
WPF Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling (BACP Accredited);
Cert of H.E. in Counselling Skills, Theory and Practice – The University of Southampton
Throughout my WPF training and following it, I have worked within a Southampton-based psychodynamic counselling agency.
I am registered with the British Psychoanalytic Council and practice according to their Code of Ethics.
My profile for the Counselling Directory can be seen at http://www.counselling-directory.org.uk/counsellors/janis-carroll.
I have full professional indemnity insurance.
