Access

The Practice is in Highfield, a district in the north of Southampton. It is located on a bus route to the city centre and is within easy reach of the M3 and M27. See the Getting Here page for more about where we are. There is normally room for practitioners to park on the forecourt, and there is free parking for clients in nearby streets.

The Rooms

There are three purpose-designed consulting rooms, used only for counselling/psychotherapy. One of these is also suitable for groups or family therapy. To see photographs of the rooms, please go to the Practice page. Each room contains two easy chairs, a desk or table with an upright chair, two lamps and a main light with a dimmer switch, two clocks, a low table with tissues, a waste-basket and a coat hook. There are usually fresh flowers in each room. There are no personal effects. Two consulting rooms also have a couch, and the other a reclining chair for therapists who like the option of using these. Furniture can be moved to suit different styles of working. The practice manager’s office is also a common-room for practitioners.

Renting the rooms

Practitioners work here for as many or as few hours a week as suits them. For instance, newcomers to private practice often start with one hour, and add more in time. Other practitioners want only evening slots. We are open Monday to Friday, from early until late as needed. Practitioners pay only for hours for which they themselves can charge. The rate includes parking, tea and coffee, a message service and other facilities.

Applying to work here

Applicants need to meet certain criteria in terms of qualifications and experience, and must have a current certificate of professional insurance. Our criteria for eligibility are available on request.
